The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism played host to the second meeting of the Bureau of the Fifth Session of the Conference of Parties to the International Convention Against Doping in Sport at the Alpensia Convention Center in Pyeongchang, Gangwon-do Province, one of the venues for the upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games.

The conference brought together representatives from the governments of Saudi Arabia, Kenya, the U.K., Japan and Finland, to talk about ways to achieve “sport integrity and anti-doping,” the theme of the talks.

The talks began with a welcome speech from Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Chong. The organizing committee and the Korea Anti-Doping Agency then delivered presentations that delved into measures to prevent doping violations, as well as laid out a system of sports governance at the PyeongChang Olympic Winter Games. The ministry briefed the participants on major sporting facilities that will be used at the PyeongChang Olympics, and on how they have been prepping for the sporting event so as to ensure that it is a success.

The ministry also outlined efforts that the government has made over the past few years to have athletes cleared in doping tests at sporting events. It also expressed its strong will to carry out doping tests at the upcoming Olympics, too, in a successful manner. As the nation’s membership in the World Anti-Doping Agency expires this year, the ministry called on the participating governments to show support for its attempt to get its membership renewed.
