The National Institute of Forest Science and the Cambodian Forestry Administration discussed the establishment and operation of a center for forestry cooperation along the Mekong River on June 21.

The two forestry agencies signed a memorandum of understanding concerning the operation of the Korea-Mekong River Forest Cooperation Center that will be launched on July 18, and discussed measures concerning the center, during the fourth Korea-Cambodia Forestry Cooperative Committee meeting held in Seoul on June 21.

In accordance with the signed agreement, the two governments agreed to seek an expanded partnership across a wider variety of areas, including joint research and the usage of seed vaults.

Alongside center operations, the two agencies also discussed during the meeting investments in forest development, the preservation of forest seeds, joint research into forest breeding, the expansion of the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization and other cooperative issues.
