Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba has opened its Korean Pavilion at its T-Mall online shopping site, a platform specializing in selling Korean products.
“Alibaba’s T-mall is the online shopping channel that attracts the most Chinese shoppers, among other existing platforms,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Kyung-hwan during the launch ceremony at the aT Center in Seocho-gu in southern Seoul on May 18.
“This new online store will put Korean goods within reach of Chinese consumers, far more Chinese consumers than can be reached through Seoul’s most popular shopping district, Myeongdong.”

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Strategy and Finance Choi Kyung-hwan delivers his celebratory speech during the launch ceremony for the new Korean Pavilion at T-Mall, the online shopping site run by Alibaba, on May 18.
“The Korean Pavilion is the first of its kind on our Alibaba platform,” said Chairman Jack Ma (馬雲) of the Alibaba Group. “This new platform promises not only conglomerates, but also small- and medium-sized Korean businesses, as well as ones from around the world, the chance to make headway in the Chinese market.”
“The Korean Pavilion goes beyond a mere e-commerce platform that brings together excellent goods. It will, hopefully, help show the world the indigenous beauty and traditions of Korea, too,” he continued.
