President Park Geun-hye has suggested that Korean and French businesses cooperate on new industries of the future and on the “creative economy” through cross-border startups.
The president, currently on a state trip to France, was speaking at the Korea-France Business Forum on June 2, where she spoke about expanding trade and investment and cooperating on new industries of the future, such as new energies, IT and biotechnology.
“With Korea’s applied and production technologies and — as seen from the 35 French Nobel laureates in science — France’s strength in science and technology, our two countries should be able to achieve win-win results,” said the president. She specifically stressed the importance of hydrogen-powered electric cars, IT and biotechnology as being areas for cooperation.
Mentioning the Korean government’s efforts at developing the “creative economy” and the French government’s startup support program French Tech, she promised her government’s support for programs that would help young entrepreneurs start their own business more easily in both countries.

Quoting the great French author Victor Hugo, “Nothing is more powerful than an idea whose time has come,” the president said she hopes that the forum will be an opportunity to “pool participants’ imagination and create a better future.”
After the forum, one-to-one business counseling sessions were also held between 101 Korean companies and 190 European companies.
