Korea-style branded apartment complexes are designed to maximize the efficiency of the limited space found inside a city. For this reason, they’re designed with a parking lot underground and various facilities for residents, such as parks, playgrounds and childcare centers, located on the ground floors.

Schools, hospitals, large retail shops, and leisure and cultural facilities are all located close to the apartment complexes so that residents can enjoy their lives without having to travel too far from their homes. These days, Korean construction companies have been actively engaging in building apartment complexes and new cities all around the world.

A good example in this regard is the Hillstate Apartment complex in Ha Dong, Vietnam, built by Hyundai Engineering & Construction. Built in a residential area outside Hanoi, the apartment complex is composed of five towers, 100 villas and a shopping center, making almost 1,000 households in total. The complex is equipped with various facilities for residents, including an indoor golf practice range, a fitness center, a kindergarten and an outdoor swimming pool. There’s an entrance to an underground parking lot near the front of the main gate, considering the fact that more Vietnamese people ride motorcycles than automobiles, in order to prevent any motorcycles from entering the complex on the ground floor.

The Vietnamese residents of the apartment complex say that the central management of the gas supply is one of the biggest merits of living there. In Vietnam, many apartments use free-standing gas canisters for cooking, due to the lack of infrastructure and of city gas lines. Other strengths of the Hillstate Ha Dong apartments are the emergency power generation system and the central management system in charge of safety across the whole complex. Each apartment building is designed to have good sunlight and views, all of which helped the apartment complex to become one of the richest areas around Hanoi.

In Vietnam, Korea-style apartment complex are quickly becoming an indispensible part of new city projects.

Since 2006, POSCO Engineering & Construction has been building the Splendora new city project alongside Vietnam’s state construction company, Vinaconex, in North An Khanh. This is a five-part project that will be carried out across an area of 2,640,000 square meters. The new development will accommodate a total of 6,130 households. POSCO E&C already sold 1,049 of them during the first phase of the project in 2009.

Since 2012, Daewoo Engineering & Construction has been building Star Lake City, covering 2,076 square meters, in Ho Tay, west of Hanoi.

A representative of Daewoo E&C said, “Ho Tay is very close to the airport and to existing downtown commercial areas in Hanoi, and is equipped with good transportation links. This is one of the most promising places thanks to the surrounding parks and the diplomatic compound nearby.”

The firm further predicted that, “Once the new project is completed, it will instantly become a new center of politics, industry, diplomacy and housing, as an opera house will be built there along with various other cultural facilities, government organizations and tall buildings.”
