This year’s World Scout Jamboree on Aug. 1 kicked off its 12-day run in Saemangeum, an  estuarine tidal flat in Buan-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province.

This global youth camping festival is organized by the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) every four years as the largest international youth event on the planet.

Around 43,000 scouts from 158 countries are expected to attend this year’s edition, whose theme is “Draw your Dream!”

Covering 8.8 square km, the campground has one side facing the Yellow Sea, thus being situated on a large plot of land with a rich natural environment.

The Jamboree will feature events in and out of the designated space, interactive exhibitions, and programs connected to the region, specifically the opening and closing ceremonies, Cultural Exchange Day, Korean folk game experience, Hanok village visit and stays at Buddhist temples.

The opening ceremony on Aug. 2 will showcase the Dream Orchestra comprising scouts and live performances by members from around the world in real time. A light show with 500 drones and a fireworks display are also scheduled.

Cultural Exchange Day on Aug. 6 will feature a K-pop concert by 11 acts including IVE, STAYC and NMIXX.

The closing ceremony on Aug. 11 will end the event with the delivery of the WOSM flag to Poland, the host country of the next Jamboree, drone light show to celebrate a successful edition in Korea and finale performance. Polish President Andrzej Duda will also visit Saemangeum during the event.
