Over 40,000 youth from around the world next month will gather in Saemangeum, an estuarine tidal flat region in Buan-gun County, Jeollabuk-do Province, to share their cultures and build friendships.

The 25th World Scout Jamboree, slated to run from Aug. 1-12, will be hosted at a designated campsite in the area. Under the theme “Draw your Dream,” this year’s event is expected to attract around 43,000 people from 154 countries.

Hosted by the World Organization of the Scout Movement, the quadrennial conference is the largest of its kind on the planet, contributing to the development of youth into global citizens through diverse programs. The event will return to Korea 32 years after it hosted the 1991 edition in Goseong-gun County, Gangwon-do Province.

The opening ceremony on Aug. 2 will feature a live collaborative performance on a large monitor with a scout orchestra and those from member countries, along with a drone show. On Cultural Day on Aug. 6, participants will showcase their national costumes, food and games to promote cultural understanding and a K-pop concert in the evening will promote global harmony going beyond religious, racial and language barriers.

The closing ceremony on Aug. 11 will conclude the 12-day event with a joint viewing of a video of participant activities and delivery of the federation flag to Poland, the host country of the next Jamboree.

Exhibitions and cultural interactive programs are also scheduled, as well as a daily visitor program targeting the public.
