The subway is one of the best means of transportation in Korea, which allows commuters both here at home and tourists from abroad to travel across the nation quickly and easily. There are, of course, downsides with such underground trains, such as complex route maps and difficulties with finding where to exit the station.

To resolve these headaches, on Aug. 1 the Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) made public a mobile-only guidebook for tourists called “Explore Korea by Subway” (한국 지하철 여행가이드).

Available in English, Japanese and simplified Chinese, the guidebook lists some of the best tourist attractions that are within 1 km or within about 10 minute by foot from subway stations in major cities nationwide, including Seoul, Busan, Daegu, Daejeon and Gwangju.

The book offers information on subway exit numbers, distance and time to reach tourist spots, using illustrated maps for a better understanding. A well-sorted arrangement of data, such as addresses, contact numbers and opening hours, is on offer, coupled with images of the attractions.

The mobile-only ‘Explore Korea by Subway’ guidebook helps tourists find sightseeing sites near subway stations, using images, descriptions and illustrated maps.

The guidebook can be downloaded through the KTO mobile app “Korea Travel Book.”

“We’ve developed this guidebook as an e-book that can be available on smartphones so that tourists can use it easily on the move,” said a KTO official. “Hopefully, more tourists coming to Korea will enjoy their trips using the subway system that they learn about from our guidebook.”
