The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Korea Tourism Organization (KTO) on Aug. 12 announced the opening of “K-Drama Spotlight,” a three-month exhibition to run through Nov. 12, at Gallery Ganghwa in Seoul’s Jongno-gu District.

The event displays Hallyu (Korean Wave) content from popular K-dramas and combines them with technologies such as augmented and virtual reality to create a new type of Hallyu tourism experience.

Visitors can get 12 types of theme-based experiences beginning with standing in a red carpet photo line like a K-drama star, making artificial intelligence avatars using images of series characters, visiting places where the series were filmed and using photo booths.

The KTO uses intellectual properties from famous K-dramas such as “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” “The Glory” and “King the Land” to provide tourism information on the filming locations of these series.

The exhibition is open from Sunday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and until 8 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission is free without a reservation, and visitors can receive souvenirs if they complete mission games throughout the exhibition hall.

You Jin-ho, executive vice president of the KTO’s Tourism Contents Strategy Division, said, “We will keep striving to discover appealing content to turn interest in Hallyu into tourism demand and attract tourists to Korea.”
