The opening of the nation’s largest copyright market is paving the way to secure overseas sales channels for domestic books.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on June 23 announced that jointly with the Publication Industry Promotion Agency of Korea, it is hosting this year’s K-Book Copyrights Market from June 24-26 at Lotte Hotel World in Seoul’s Songpa-gu District.

The business-to-business event seeks to stimulate exports of book copyrights held by domestic publishers and cooperation in publication exchange.

Foreign companies were invited to attend export consultations on copyrights and intellectual property with their domestic counterparts.

For this, programs include one-on-one export consultations between foreign and domestic companies, investor relations sessions for domestic publishers, consulting on publication exports and networking receptions for participating companies.

About 100 publishers and agencies from 29 nations will attend the market to hold 1,250 export discussions with 98 domestic counterparts. The participating entities from abroad hail not only from countries in Asia including Taiwan, Malaysia and India, but also those from Europe and North America including Spain, Italy, France, the U.S. and Canada.

Kim Yong-sup, director-general of the ministry’s Media Policy Division, said, “We will expand opportunities for export consultations with leading foreign buyers to diversify foreign markets for K-book publishing content.”
