Korea Clickers, the Facebook group for Korea.net and the Korea Culture and Information Service (KOCIS), recently surpassed 600,000 likes, and members of the group, friends and family came together in Gwanghwamun Square on April 22 to celebrate the landmark.

More than 60 Korea Clickers members from 12 countries, including China, the U.S., Ghana, Russia, Vietnam and Kazakhstan, took part in the ceremony to mark a record high of more than 600,000 likes.

“When I came to Seoul for the first time in 2003, I stayed abreast of news with the Korea.net page. Korea Clickers, as well as Korea.net, have been my regular source for news about the country,” said Ilya Belyakov, a participant from Russia. “Many non-Koreans like me take advantage of these sites as a way to get a better understanding of Korea and also as a way to communicate with each other. I hope to see Korea Clickers hit more than one million likes sometime soon,” he said.

Members of Korea Clickers, clad in matching white jackets, posed together for a group photo in Seoul’s central square. Afterward, they moved to a nearby restaurant for lunch where they bonded over a hearty bowl of ginseng chicken soup, or samgyetang. The dish has become very popular since it was featured in the wildly popular KBS soap opera “Descendants of the Sun.”

“Since the TV show aired, samgyetang has become a real hit across my country, China,” said Wang Xinran (王欣然), who arrived in Korea a year ago from Dalian, China, to study trade at Konkuk University. “This is my second time to enjoy the dish and when I upload pictures of the dish, it makes my friends back home in Dalian really jealous,” she added with a smile.

Ever since KOCIS launched the Korea Clickers group in December 2009, friends from around the world have not only had access to a wide range of news about Korea, such as day-to-day life, traditions, art and history, but they’ve also been able to share their thoughts and feelings online by clicking like or leaving a comment.
