The Heungnyemun Gate (흥례문, 興禮門), the second inner gate at Gyeongbokgung Palace, is illuminated with a colorful display of media art from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3 in celebration of National Foundation Day (개천절, 開天節).

In just a few days, splendid displays of color will illuminate your evening strolls around the palace grounds.

This fall, the Cultural Heritage Administration resumes its yearly night openings at Gyeongbokgung and Changgeyonggung palaces, where visitors can enjoy the serenity of the royal quarters under the stars. From Sept. 24 to Oct. 28, a variety of media art installations will brighten up different sections of the palace, heightening the mood and atmosphere of the maze-like courtyards and passageways.

The Heungnyemun Gate (흥례문, 興禮門), the second inner gate at Gyeongbokgung Palace, will light up with a media facade from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, and showcase images and videos in vibrant hues projected onto the surface of the historic building.

Changgyeonggung Palace, on the other hand, will have media art installations that feature the passage of time on the palace grounds, shown through images of the four seasons. Visitors can look forward to a series of concerts at the Tongmyeongjeon Hall (통명전, 通明殿), the residential quarters of the king and queen at Changgyeonggung. The shows will include instrumental pieces on the haegeum, a traditional stringed instrument resembling a fiddle, as well as vocal performances of folk songs, pansori epic storytelling and performances of the song “Arirang.”
