By Lee Kyoung MiActing President Choi Sang Mok, who is deputy prime minister and minister of economy and finance, on Jan. 7 received credentials from nine new foreign ambassadors at Government Complex-Seoul.
A letter of credentials is a diplomatic document sent by the leader of a country sending an ambassador to the head of state of the host nation asking for trust in the envoy. Once the paper is presented, the ambassador can begin official activity.
Among the ambassadors attending that day included Dai Bing of China, who was appointed on Dec. 27, and Claudio Monzon Baeza of Cuba, his country’s first to Korea who began his official duties 11 months after both countries formed diplomatic relations.
The others were Antonio de Sa Benevides of East Timor, Paul Sobba Massaquoi of Sierra Leone, Patricio Esteban Troya Suarez of Ecuador, Diego Manuel Vilanueva Martinelli of Panama, Landry Mboumba of Gabon, Shiva Maya Tumbahangphe of Nepal and Loukas Tsokos of Greece.
