Heads of the cultural sectors from Asian and European countries will gather in Korea to discuss cooperation.

Government representatives from a total of 51 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) countries will participate in the seventh Asia-Europe Culture Ministers’ Meeting from June 22 to 24 at the Asia Culture Center (ACC) in Gwangju, Korea. The meeting will also be attended by representatives from the EU and the Association of South-East Asian Nations (ASEAN). Participants will discuss measures to boost cooperation on the arts and traditions, and related creative industries.

The seventh Asia-Europe Culture Ministers' Meeting will be held from June 22 to 24 at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju. To prepare for the meeting, a senior officials meeting involving government officials from the participating countries was held this past February.

The seventh Asia-Europe Culture Ministers’ Meeting will be held from June 22 to 24 at the Asia Culture Center in Gwangju. A total of 51 ASEM countries and representatives from the EU and ASEAN will participate in the meeting. They will discuss cooperation on the arts and traditions, and related creative industries. To prepare for the meeting, a senior officials meeting involving government officials from the participating countries was held this past February.

The main theme of the meeting is “Culture and Creative Economy.” Meeting participants will hold discussions on related themes, such as the “Future of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and the Creative Industries,” “Traditional Cultural Heritage and the Creative Economy” and “International Cooperation for Vitalizing the Creative Industries.”

On June 22, the first day of the conference, the second senior officials meeting and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF) Policy Panel will both be held. The next day, plenary and special sessions will be held where Korea will serve as chair and preside over the discussions. Three session meetings will be also held that day.

Various sideline events will be held across Gwangju before and throughout the conference. On June 22, the National Theater of Korea will stage a traditional dance, “The Scent of Ink” (묵향), at the ACC Theater. The performance expresses the beauty of the Four Gracious Plants (사군자, 四君子) as traditional dance. The ACC Theater will also host the Asia Traditional Orchestra on June 24.

Finally, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced in a statement that, “Korea will propose to form an ASEM Youth Leadership Network among the creative industries of ASEM countries.”
