The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on May 10 that Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha will visit Washington on May 11 and hold her first meeting with new U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, followed by a joint press conference.

The two sides will share their assessment of recent progress regarding to the situation on the Korean Peninsula, including the outcomes of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit. They will discuss ways for the two allies to work together to bring forward success at the upcoming summit between North Korea and the U.S., in order to bring denuclearization to the North and to settle a final peace on the Korean Peninsula.

They will reaffirm the strength of the Korea-U.S. alliance, which marks its 65th anniversary this year, and discuss the state of affairs between the two countries.

Previously on April 28, Minister Kang had a phone call with Pompeo and they agreed to meet as soon as possible to cooperate on the planned North Korea-U.S. summit.
