Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Tae-yul and his counterparts from 45 African states on June 2 held a meeting in Seoul to conduct a final inspection of the agenda for the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit slated from May 4-5.

In a speech, Minister Cho thanked the African nations for cooperating in the summit and urged their support for a successful hosting of the event.

Mauritanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Salem Ould Merzoug, whose country is chairing the African Union this year, lauded Korea for continuing to arrange a communication channel to reflect the opinions of nations on the continent.

Based on the three main agenda items of the summit — shared growth, sustainability and solidarity — Korea said it will advance practical cooperation in seven sectors including trade and investment, infrastructure, vocational training and digitalization.

The African ministers welcomed Korea’s inaugural hosting of the summit and expressed hope to expand bilateral cooperation in agriculture, climate change, technology, infrastructure and sharing of experiences in economic development.
