Korea participated in the Group of 20 (G20) Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting in Salta, Argentina, from Aug. 23 to 24, and stressed the importance of preparing for a human-centered fourth industrial revolution.
The G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meeting was first held in Dusseldorf, Germany, to address the challenges of an increasingly digital world. This year, the ministerial meeting was held under the theme of “a digital agenda for development.” G20 participants and seven guest countries, including Spain and Senegal, as well as heads of major international organizations attended the meeting.
Yang Hwan-jung, a senior official at the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), delivered the keynote speech about the Korean government’s “human-centered, inclusive policy” that benefits all tiers of society. The speaker also stressed the need to invest in wireless networks that will be needed in order to use future technologies, such as 5G communications speeds.
The Korean government’s set of policies, broadly called “advanced human-centric policies,” and “promotion of investment in digital connectivity infrastructure, including 5G” were reflected in the G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Declaration.
Yang said, “We will boost cooperation with G20 participants through this G20 meeting.”
Key content selected during the meeting will be reflected in the joint statement of the G20 summit, slated to take place on Nov. 30.
