A public agency will support Kyrgyzstan’s conversion to electric vehicles (EV) to help fight global climate change.

The Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on June 7 said its President Chang Won Sam held talks with Kyrgyz Minister of Economy and Commerce Daniyar Amangeldiev in the Kyrgyz capital of Bishkek. They signed a record of bilateral talks on a public project for EV transition to achieve green mobility in the Central Asian country.

Thus from this year to 2027, KOICA will invest USD 11 million in 130 EVs and 134 chargers for public institutions and post offices in select areas of Bishkek and the Chuy region.

The agency will also develop an EV monitoring system, set up server rooms for system management and invite Kyrgyz workers to undergo training in Korea to boost their skills.

“We’re pleased to promote new projects in Kyrgyzstan this year such as an EV transition project for public organizations,” President Chang said at the signing ceremony. “We hope to work together so that this project, which the Kyrgyz government is interested in, can start as soon as possible.”

“The Ministry of Economy and Commerce, as the general supervisory body for Kyrgyzstan’s overseas cooperation, has already built strong cooperative relations with KOICA,” Minister Amangeldiev added. “We will actively cooperate to ensure that Korea’s overseas development assistance projects proceed effectively.”
