Minister of Trade, Industry, and Energy Ahn Dukgeun and his U.S. and Japanese counterparts have adopted a joint declaration confirming their commitment to trilateral cooperation in supply chains and high-tech sectors.

The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on June 26 said Minister Ahn, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, and Japanese Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Ken Saito attended the inaugural ministerial summit of industry among the three sides at the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington.

The meeting is a follow-up to an agreement concluded in August last year by the leaders of the three countries at their trilateral summit held at Camp David near Washington. The ministers discussed advancing the development of core and emerging technologies and reinforcing the economic security of their respective sides.

They also agreed to expand cooperation in supply chains for semiconductors and core minerals, coordinate protection of advance technologies and export controls, promote joint research and raise cooperation in standards for advanced industrial technologies such as artificial intelligence, and boost collaboration in clean energy. The three sides also pledged to enhance trilateral cooperation within the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

Seoul, Washington and Tokyo will hold this meeting every year and keep up working-level cooperation to advance talks among the ministers.

“Korea, the U.S. and Japan are the best partners for cooperation in leading cutting-edge technology and technical innovation and for jointly overcoming the international crisis in supply chains,” Minister Ahn said. “We expect that future meetings of the three countries’ industry ministers form the institutional basis for deepening and advancing trilateral industrial cooperation and jointly responding to global risk.”
