Korea and Japan signed an MOU to intensify the cooperation on disaster control between the two countries. The agreement allows Korea to share Japan’s advanced disaster management policies based on knowledge and experience regarding large-scale catastrophes such as earthquakes.

The Ministry of Public Safety and Security and the Japanese Cabinet Office agreed to exchange disaster specialists and information related to disaster and safety management.

Following its establishment in 2014, the ministry focused on arranging collaboration networks with neighboring nations in order to improve large-scale disaster response. Japan is the fourth country to form such partnership after China in November 2015, the U.S. in March and Russia in May.

“The agreement with Japan, a country with rich experiences with earthquakes, will become the cornerstone for a safer Korea,” said Minister of Public Safety and Security Park Inyong.
