President Park Geun-hye and Danish Prime Minister Lars Loekke Rasmussen agreed to expand the scope of industrial cooperation between their two countries to include more areas of mutual interest, such as the healthcare and shipping industries. The agreement came as a result of the Korea-Denmark summit held on Oct. 25 at Cheong Wa Dae.
The two leaders signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote “comprehensive industrial cooperation,” which has hitherto been focused solely on environmentally-friendly and energy-efficient container vessels. Under the new MOU, bilateral cooperation between the two countries is predicted to expand into the design sector, clean technologies, shipping and defense.
In particular, the two governments will strengthen cooperation on the development of “e-navigation,” an information technology-based maritime safety system based on IT that shares marine information in real time. In the design sector, Korean companies will share their IT with their Danish counterparts and combine them with Denmark’s advanced design skills to produce higher-quality, higher value-added products.
To this end, the two leaders agreed to jointly establish a high-level committee to oversee industrial cooperation between Korean and Danish companies.

The two governments also penned an MOU covering cooperation on the health insurance sector. Under this agreement, Korea’s health insurance system will be introduced in Denmark, which will, in turn, share with the Korean government its experiences developing its pharmaceutical industry.
The two governments also agreed to cooperate across the “creative industries,” and to help foster venture and startup businesses. The two sides will expand mutual support for the Global Green Growth Industry (GGGI), founded by the Korean government, and for the Global Green Growth Forum (3GF), as well as help developing countries strengthen their capabilities to respond to climate change through the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
The two leaders also touched on North Korea’s nuclear weapons issues, and agreed that they both see the North’s nuclear weapon and missile provocations as real threats to the international community. They vowed to further join forces to do away with nuclear weapons in North Korea.
