Korea and France have vowed to further boost bilateral cooperation on sports and tourism, especially because this year marks the 130th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.

On June 3, Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports & Tourism Kim Chong inked an agreement with French Minister of the Urbanity, Youth Affairs and Sports Patrick Kanner to enhance cooperation between Seoul and Paris on sports. With the agreement, both nations will expand human-to-human exchanges between athletes and sport experts. They will also join forces to put an end to match fixing and doping scandals.

The Korean vice minister and French Ambassador to Korea Fabien Penone, who was visiting Paris, also signed a joint action plan to further promote tourism between the two nations. The plan outlines more sharing of information about tourist laws and regulations, and will give a boost to regional and intercity cooperation. It will promote mutual investment in better infrastructure and encourage private cooperation across the various tourism industries.

“Seoul and Paris have been undertaking joint efforts across various areas over the past few years, including arts and performances, sports and tourism,” said Vice Minister Kim. “These latest two agreements will help us to solidify bilateral ties in terms of cooperation on sports and tourism,” he said.
