President Moon Jae-in and North Korea’s State Affairs Commission Chairman Kim Jong Un made a toast to “the 80 million people in South and North, may we all become one” during the welcome banquet at the Mokrangwan state guesthouse in Pyeongyang on Sept. 18.

“The complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and settling peace are important agenda items,” said President Moon. “To solve these issues, Chairman Kim and I will put our heads and hearts together.”

“We will make developments in our cooperation on all fields, including the military, the economy, society and the arts, and discuss ways to rid us of the military tension and of the fear of war on the Korean Peninsula,” said the president.

“We should continue with this new page of history, of peace and prosperity, which has already made a good start, and bring forward the flowering spring days and the affluent fruits of the inter-Korean relationship,” said Chairman Kim.

“Because President Moon and I have been building trust between us, our steps toward a peaceful and prosperous future of the Korean Peninsula will get even faster,” said Chairman Kim. “I will discuss with President Moon ways to ensure the success of the Panmunjeom Declaration and how to make improvements.”

Some 200 people from the South Korean delegation and some 50 from the North also attended the banquet.

In the lobby of the Mokrangwan state guesthouse, the banquet venue, presents that had been prepared for the leaders were on display. The South had prepared a copy of the Daedongyeojido (대동여지도, 大東輿地圖), a large map of Korea completed in 1861, and the North had prepared an oil painting of the two leaders from their May summit.
