Around KRW 3 trillion in government investment by 2030 will go toward developing high-tech robotics.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Dec. 14 announced this in a strategic meeting on the high-tech robotics industry chaired by its Minister Bang Moon Kyu as part of its vision and strategy for the sector.
The first step is investment of KRW 3 trillion by 2030 through a public-private partnership to strengthen the domestic sector’s competitiveness. Training of some 15,000 related personnel will follow in connection with the mobility industry such as future cars and drones, as well as development of around 30 intelligent robotics companies with combined sales of KRW 100 billion.
The ministry will also accelerate robot supply. Its plan is to raise the industrial and social contributions of robots like boosting productivity and reducing accident rates by supplying around a million robots by 2030 to all sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, welfare and safety.
In addition, the Intelligent Robots Act will be revamped to provide an institutional basis to support technological advancement and change in robotics. To ensure robot stability and reliability, KRW 200 billion will go toward building a national robotics testing facility.
Minister Bang said, “To have the robotics industry secure world-class technology and achieve the ‘K-Robot economy’ as a new growth engine, we will combine policy capacities across the government to expand investment and create new overseas markets.”
