Ministry of Unification spokesperson Baik Tae-hyun announced on May 4 that the activists’ action spreading anti-North Korean leaflets along the military demarcation line is now strictly against the cooperative spirit of the Panmunjeom Declaration, and thus asked them to stop their actions.
The Ministry of Unification reported that, “The spread of anti-North Korean leaflets along the military demarcation line intensifies military tension and has become the source of conflict,” and it emphasized that, “It’s highly desirable to immediately stop the action, and to follow the Panmunjeom Declaration for peace on the Korean Peninsula and for the alleviation of military tension.”
Moreover, the spokesperson said that, “The spread of anti-North Korean leaflets must stop for the safety of neighboring residents and the prevention of social conflict.” The Ministry of Unification plans to strengthen communication with the activist groups and to take measures with police authorities to stop the spread of anti-North Korean leaflets.
