The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on April 8 released a statement strongly protesting the Japanese government’s latest territorial claim to Dokdo Island in its Diplomatic Bluebook 2025.
Under the name of the ministry’s spokesperson, the statement said, “The government of the Republic of Korea (ROK) strongly protests against the Japanese government’s repeated inclusion of unjust sovereignty claims over Dokdo, which is clearly an integral part of the ROK territory historically, geographically and under international law, in its Diplomatic Bluebook released on April 8, 2025.”
“The ROK government urges the Japanese government to immediately withdraw such claims.”
“The ROK government makes it clear once again that it will continue to respond firmly to any of Japan’s provocations over Dokdo,” it added.
Earlier that day, the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported the claim to the Japanese cabinet through the publication, which has done so 17 times since 2008.
