Inwangsan, with its large granite peaks, is a mountain to the west of Gyeongbokgung Palace, surrounded by the Hanyang Doseong, or the Fortress Wall of Seoul.

While most of Inwangsan’s trails are accessible to the public, some areas have been off-limits for several decades due security reasons, until now.

On May 3, Cheong Wa Dae announced that it would give back to the public those parts of Inwangsan that had been blocked off, as part of the new administration’s initiative to give ownership back to the people. This move is a follow-up to the decision made last year to open the roads in front of Cheong Wa Dae for public use.

Thanks the latest decision, Inwangsan’s old trails along the fortress will be restored to their natural state, and guard posts will be removed within this year.
