President Moon Jae-in met with U.S. Representative Ed Royce, chairman of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, at Cheong Wa Dae on Aug. 28. They discussed measures to bolster the Korea-U.S. alliance in order to enhance security on the Korean Peninsula and issues involving North Korean issues.
President Moon said, “The Seoul-Washington alliance that focused on military and security has been developing into a comprehensive alliance that encompasses the economy, society and culture.”
“I believe we will serve as a partner to the U.S. to work together on global issues, including in the future the expansion of freedom, democracy, human rights and anti-terrorism,” said the president.
“The dismantlement of North Korean nuclear weapons should be resolved through sanctions and pressure and, ultimately, through dialogue,” said President Moon.
Representative Royce said that the Korea-U.S. relationship is a special relationship and that it serves as the cornerstone of U.S. policy in Northeast Asia.
“Economic growth and job creation between our two countries also helps develop a win-win relationship between both countries,” said the U.S. congressperson.
