
President Park Geun-hye delivers her acceptance speech after being awarded an honorary doctorate in the natural sciences from University of Paris VI. In her speech, she stressed the importance of active cooperation between the two nations on incubating the creative industries.
“Korea and France, as ideal partners, will open a new era through the creative industries and cultural prosperity.”
So said President Park Geun-hye in her acceptance speech on June 3, after receiving an honorary doctorate in the natural sciences from the University of Paris VI for her accomplishments in developing new economic growth engines through the creative industries.
In her speech, entitled “The journey toward freedom and prosperity: creative industries and cultural prosperity,” the president said, “By expanding cooperation between our universities, we will educate creative leaders and support their innovative pursuits.” She stressed the importance of active cooperation between the two nations in incubating startups and new engines of economic growth.
Minister of State for Higher Education and Research Thierry Mandon, University of Paris VI President Jean Chambaz as well as 200 other dignitaries were in attendance at the day’s event.
This was the first time that the University of Paris VI awarded an honorary doctorate in the natural sciences to a president of a foreign country.
