President Park Geun-hye attends the most recent G20 summit in Antalya, Turkey, on Nov. 15 last year. She is to attend the upcoming 11th G20 summit in Hangzhou, China, on Sept. 4 and 5.

President Park Geun-hye is to attend the upcoming 11th G20 summit in Hangzhou, China, and then the 18th ASEAN summit in Vientiane.

At the G20 summit, set for Sept. 4 and 5, G20 leaders will discuss ways to further enhance cooperation under the theme of “Toward an innovative, invigorated, interconnected and inclusive world economy.” President Park will speak on international issues that could affect the Korean economy.

At the meeting, G20 member states will touch upon ways to come up with macro-economic policies to boost the slow-growing world economy, and upon ways to achieve inclusive and innovative growth. They will focus on ways to strengthen the global financial safety net so that it can cope with unpredictable volatility in global financial markets, and the leaders there will have in-depth discussions on ways to further enhance cooperation across the G20.

On Sept. 7, President Park will then fly to Laos to attend the ASEAN summit, where she will discuss ways to further solidify the Korea-ASEAN strategic partnership. She will take part in the 19th ASEAN Plus Three Summit that includes Korea, Japan and China, where leaders will talk about plans to strengthen the role that the three Northeast Asian economies can take to become a driving force for a sound network among all East Asian nations.

At the 11th East Asia Summit (EAS) on Sept. 8, the president will talk about sectors in which East Asian governments have recently collaborated, and about major regional and global issues.

On the final leg of her trip, President Park will have a summit with Laotian President Bounnhang Vorachith where they will discuss matters of mutual interest, including trade, investment, energy and development projects. The two leaders are to share their views on issues involving the Korean Peninsula, as well.

“This is the Korean president’s first official visit to Laos since the two countries established diplomatic ties in 1995. Hopefully, this visit will be a chance to build a trust-based relationship with the Laotian government and also bring bilateral ties to a new level,” Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release.
