President Yoon Suk Yeol on Dec. 10 exchanged congratulatory messages with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate the 50th anniversary of bilateral ties.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Dec. 11 quoted President Yoon’s message as saying, “Based on the friendship forged through longtime cultural and historical bonds and the Korean War since the establishment of bilateral ties, Korea and India have developed a ‘special strategic partnership’ in various sectors such as supply chains, the defense industry, science and technology, and culture.”

“As key partners that share the values of freedom and democracy, both sides are jointly dealing with regional peace and prosperity and global challenges.”

“I am certain that the ‘special strategic partnership’ between Korea and India will continue its sustainable development,” he added. “To this end, I hope for close cooperation with Prime Minister Modi.”

Saying bilateral relations have expanded in many directions over the past half century to evolve into a special strategic partnership, the Indian leader said he was sure that both sides will continue cooperating for peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region based on their shared values of democracy and rule of law.
