President Yoon Suk Yeol has asked his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to “take interest in and support Korean companies” in the North African country.
The presidential office in Seoul on Oct. 20 said President Yoon held a phone conversation with President El-Sisi on bilateral cooperation measures.
On ties with Cairo, President Yoon said, “Since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1995, both countries have steadily developed mutually beneficial and cooperative relations,” adding, “In particular, I express satisfaction over the expansion of bilateral cooperation to sectors like nuclear power, the defense industry, infrastructure and collaboration in development.”
President Yoon also asked his Egyptian counterpart to take interest in and support Korean companies operating in Egypt.
In response, President El-Sisi said he is happy with the further development of bilateral ties not only in infrastructure but other areas such as nuclear power, adding that Egypt actively welcomes Korean companies with world-class technologies, especially in the green economy including hydrogen energy, electric vehicles and shipbuilding.
The Egyptian leader also spoke of his nation’s hosting next month of the 27th U.N. Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP27).
President Yoon said Na Kyung-won, newly appointed ambassador of climate and environment, will attend COP27 as a presidential envoy and pledged Seoul’s active cooperation for a successful summit.
