President Yoon Suk Yeol on Sept. 1 hosted talks with Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority of Abu Dhabi who visited Korea as a special envoy of United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The presidential office in Seoul on Sept. 2 said President Yoon told the envoy that he hopes that both countries can further raise the development of bilateral relations a notch based on their exceptional results so far.
Calling the UAE’s Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, which Korea in 2009 received an order to build, as a symbol of bilateral cooperation, Chairman Khaldoon told President Yoon that he hopes both countries can build a new strategic relationship that looks forward decades and is based on the trust built by the two sides.
He also suggested expanding and solidifying bilateral cooperation in four areas: nuclear power, energy security, the defense industry and investment cooperation.
President Yoon said he hopes that UAE President Mohamed can visit Korea in the near future. In response, Chairman Khaldoon said he hopes President Yoon can go to the UAE soon so that both countries can discuss a new strategic partnership.
President Yoon had previously met the envoy on May 10, as the chairman visited Korea as part of a UAE delegation attending the presidential inauguration.
