Regular direct flights between Korea and Croatia are soon to be put into operation.

Governments in Seoul and Zagreb signed an agreement on air transport on Dec. 30 last year, a deal that will launch regular flight services between the two countries.

The agreement will provide for the establishment of direct flights up to seven times per week. It will also encourage airlines to share each other’s designator and flight numbers. Such a code-sharing agreement would allow passengers to reserve flights and to check in with more ease.

From 2010 until last year, nonscheduled flights flew from Korea to Croatia, with only 20 one-way flights departing from Korea and touching down in the Central European country in 2014.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that, “Over the past five years, the number of tourists going to Croatia from Korea has rapidly increased. As of 2014, the number rose by 256 percent, year-on-year, to more than 260,000.

“The air transport agreement will encourage both human-to-human and material exchanges between the two countries, not only in tourism, but also trade, investment and other areas of mutual interest,” the ministry said.
