A direct phone line between Cheong Wa Dae and Pyeongyang has been opened on April 20.
Director Yun Kun-young of Cheong Wa Dae’s government situation room said in a press briefing at the Chunchuggwan Press Center at Cheong Wa Dae that, “A historic direct telephone connection between the South and North leaders has been set up a few minutes ago.”
“A test telephone call took place between the two sides at 3:41 p.m.,” he said. .
The test phone call was made between senior secretary for personnel affairs of Cheong Wa Dae Song In-bae and a staff member at the State Affairs Committee in Pyeongyang and it lasted 4 minutes and 19 seconds.
“The connection was made smoothly, and the call was technically perfect,” he said.
“As we have only a week before the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit, for the time being we’ll continue to do our utmost concerning on-site preparations,” Yoon added.
