Foreign workers and marriage migrants living in Busan can receive public support for medical expenses.

Busan Metropolitan Government on July 1 said in the second half of the year, it will continue supporting medical expenses for disadvantaged groups like foreign workers without health insurance and marriage migrants.

Ninety percent of medical fees are covered such as those for hospitalization, surgery and related outpatient treatment for foreign workers, marriage migrants and minors under age 18 who are ineligible for benefits from the medical insurance system.

The targeted beneficiaries are those who have stayed 90 days in the country with medical diagnoses that their ailments developed while they resided here. Not covered are those eligible for medical coverage such as health insurance or those with injuries from a traffic accident or physical assault.

Participating institutions in this project are Pusan National University Hospital, Busan Medical Center, Family Health Clinic, Ilsin Christian Hospital, Daedong Hospital and Good Samsun Hospital.

In the first half of this year, the city supported medical expenses in 234 cases of foreign workers, marriage migrants and their children from Vietnam, China and the Philippines.
