Government organizations continue to announce plans to keep Gangwon-do Province as a clean, environment-friendly region during the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

The Ministry of Environment announced on Jan. 29 that it will waive all electric car charging fees across Gangwon-do Province, in line with the Korea Automobile Association.

The Gangwon-do Province announced that it would carry out its “Clean Gangwon” campaign through to Feb. 28.

The environment ministry will conduct site inspections at a total of 78 high-speed charger stations at 52 spots in Gangwon-do. The 52 locations include rest areas along six expressways, such as the Gyeongbu and Yeongdong expressways.

From the opening of the Olympics on Feb. 9 through to the Closing Ceremony on Feb. 25, the ministry plans to carry out urgent field inspections to quickly respond to any mechanical errors or malfunctions at the charging stations. The ministry also aims to provide prompt response teams in order to solve any problems within two hours of any incident occuring.

Gangwon-do Province has also designate special cleaning areas in Pyeongchang and Jeonseon counties and in Gangneung starting Feb. 8, a day before the Games, to Feb. 25, with the launch of special cleaning squads.
