More than 80 journalists from 50 countries gathered in Seoul to discuss the role of journalism and the peaceful denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

The fourth Journalist Forum for World Peace is being held this year from April 17 to April 23, and participating journalists from all over the world, including Europe, South America, Africa, Oceania, Asia and the Middle East, are in attendance.

“Issues surrounding North Korea’s nuclear weapons have increased interest in peace on the peninsula,” said Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Kim Jongdeok. “I hope that during the forum journalists will have a chance to visit the Demilitarized Zone and to feel first-hand our firm resolution to defend peace on the peninsula,” he urged.

“The journalists gathered here have both cool-headed reason and a warm heart in common with each other, working to inform readers about the truth and working for peace,” said Jung Kyu-sung, president of the Journalists Association of Korea, the hosting organization. “You can visit the main cities of the Republic of Korea during the forum and experience both our traditions and our development.”

During the forum, journalists from all around the world will visit the Hwaseong Fortress in Suwon and the Hahoe Village in Andong. They will attend the Daegu International Optical Show and visit the Gyeonggi Center for a Creative Economy & Innovation, the Samsung Innovation Museum and the offices of Welltural, a small foods and grains business. Finally, on April 22 they will also visit the Demilitarized Zone and experience the reality of Korea first-hand, one of the few divided countries in the world.
