Pope Francis remarked that there was a positive outcome of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit and that the two Korean leaders demonstrated “courageous commitment.”
After the Regina Coeli prayer at St. Peter’s Square in Vatican City on April 29, he mentioned the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit and prayed for a future of peace for Koreans and for the world.
“The Inter-Korean Summit held on April 27 had a positive outcome,” said the pope. “President Moon Jae-in and Chairman of the State Affairs Committee Kim Jong Un demonstrated their courageous commitment to start down the path of sincere dialogue for a Korean Peninsula free from nuclear weapons.”
He also said that he is praying so that “the hope for a future of peace and more fraternal friendship will not be disappointed, and that collaboration will continue to bear fruit for the beloved Korean people and for the whole world.”
Prior to the summit on April 25, the pope had blessed the summit to come.
In front of thousands of people gathered for a Wednesday General Audience, the pope said, “This summit will be a favorable opportunity… to guarantee peace on the Korean Peninsula and in the entire world.”
He particularly asked President Moon and Chairman Kim to have the courage of hope and to be “artisans of peace.”
