The White House gift shop has released souvenir coins to commemorate the recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean Chairman Kim Jong Un. Released on June 13, the coins also highlight the significance of the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit that took place on April 27.
The front of the coin features the side profiles of President Trump and Chairman Kim facing one another against a backdrop of their national flags. The words “Peace Talks” are written at the bottom in both English and Korean.
President Moon Jae-in gets a mention on the back of the coin, too.
Along the outer edge of the coin, it reads, “Korean President Moon Jae-in & N. Korean Leader Kim Jong Un signed the Panmunjeom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity & Unification of the Korean Peninsula, April 27, 2018.” The inner edge has the words “New Era,” “New Generation,” “New Leadership” and “New Hope” written on it.
The description on the gift shop website says, “U.S. President Donald J. Trump, South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un all represent a turning away from time past to time future. Hence, we are seeing the emergence of a brave new generation of world leaders and a new history in Korea, as well as a new history of Korean and United States friendship and partnership for both great peace and also great prosperity.”
