With next year’s PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter Games exactly 100 days away, a commemorative festival took place at the Korea Paralympic Committee Icheon Training Center in Icheon-si, Gyeonggi-do Province, on Nov. 29.
The G-100 Festival, held under the slogan of “Success of Paralympic Games completes true Olympic Games,” had in attendance more than 300 representatives, including Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Do Jongwhan, President Lee Hee-beom of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee and 10 wheelchair curling athletes.
The attendees celebrated with the unveiling of a countdown clock to the upcoming Paralympic Games, which will pit about 1,500 Olympians from more than 50 countries against each other in a total of six sporting events from Mar. 9 to 18, 2018. They also formed into a shape of the number 100 and wished for a successful Games next year.
“I saw on TV para-nordic skier Sin Eui-hyun of the national Korean team the other day. The show showed him training and his daily life,” said Minister Do. “This athlete, who has made it against all odds to compete for a medal in Pyeongchang, is already a gold medalist,” he said.
The minister went on to say that, “The Paralympic Games are a festival that brings us hope. The government will pull out all stops to make the games a stage of hope, not only for our 2.5 million disabled people, but also for the hearts of people all around the world.”
