As part of the test events for the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, the International Skating Union (ISU) World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships took place at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, from Feb. 9 to 12. The Czech Republic took the gold medal in the women’s 5,000 m race on Feb. 11.
On Feb. 11, in the women’s 5,000 m race on the third day of the championships, Martina Sablikova won ahead of second place Claudia Pechstein of Germany. Ivanie Blondin of Canada took third place.
