An outdoor cheering event on June 9 is scheduled at Gwanghwamun Square in Seoul’s Jongno-gu District for Korea, which faces Italy in the semifinals of the FIFA U-20 (under 20) World Cup of soccer.

The Korea Football Association on June 7 said, “To root for our national team in its U-20 World Cup semifinals against Italy, we along with Seoul Metropolitan Government and the Red Devils (a cheering community for the national team) on June 9 at 6 a.m. will hold a group cheering event at Gwanghwamun Square.”

Red Devils leader Lee Jung-geun said, “We prepared this event to cheer for the positive result of ‘final victory’ after advancing to the round of 16 in last year’s Qatar World Cup amid difficulty.”

The Taegeuk Warriors face Italy in La Plata, Argentina, with a berth in the championship game at stake.

Finishing second in the last U-20 World Cup in 2019, Korea seeks its second straight advance to the tournament’s final.
