Germany has officially reaffirmed its participation in the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Second Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Roh Tae-kang held a meeting with the chair of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), Michael Vesper, in Frankfurt, Germany, on Oct. 23 and confirmed Germany’s participation in and support for the upcoming Winter Games.

“Germany trusts the Korean government to keep the PyeongChang Games safe and secure, and German athletes will take part in the event,” said Vesper. “There will be the Opening Ceremony with the German national team on Nov. 2 and the uniforms will be unveiled, too.”

“The ceremony, with some 160 athletes, to be held in Dusseldorf, will show that Germany will participate,” Vesper added.

“Korea hosted the Seoul 1988 Olympics, the 2002 FIFA World Cup Korea/ Japan and the IAAF World Championships Daegu 2011 without any trouble. Based on that experience, the Korean government is putting every effort into guaranteeing the safety of all the athletes. We will have everything, including lodging and transportation, perfectly ready,” said the second vice minister.
