The International Olympic Committee (IOC) welcomed the proposals agreed upon by South Korea and North Korea in their latest talks, it said in a statement on Jan. 9. The proposals cover North Korean athletes’ participation in February’s PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.
In the statement, IOC President Thomas Bach said, “These proposals mark a great step forward in the Olympic spirit.” The IOC is waiting for the official reports and proposals that will result from the inter-Korean meeting.
“The IOC will then discuss these proposals, in particular concerning participation and the number and names of the North Korean athletes, and the format for their participation, such as flag, anthem or ceremonies. We will continue to have these discussions in a positive and constructive manner.”
