The national fencing team has won the Asian Fencing Championships for the 12th consecutive time.

In the tournament running from June 10-15 at Olympic Fencing Gymnasium of Olympic Park in Seoul’s Songpa-gu District, Korea won the team competition with six gold, three silver and three bronze medals.

This was the 12th straight victory for Team Korea, a streak that started in 2009 in Doha, Qatar.

The championship was held for the first time in three years due to the pandemic, with its last edition coming in 2019 in Tokyo, Japan.

Japan finished second with three gold, four silver and five bronze. This was the second time for Korea to host the event since 2014 in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do Province.

Gu Bon-gil for the men and Choi Soo-yeon for the women won their respective individual sabre events. Both the men and women secured gold in the team sabre and epee.

Next for the national team is the World Fencing Championships in Cairo, Egypt, from July 15.
