With a full schedule of test events for the PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games underway, a press conference for foreign journalists was launched in Gangneung, Gangwon-do Province.
The press conference was held after the final match for the ISU World Cup Short Track Speed Skating Series for 2016-2017 at the Seamarq Hotel on Dec. 18. Some 84 reporters and tourism industry representatives from six countries including China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Thailand, Singapore and Vietnam were in attendance.

Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Cho Yoonsun, President of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee Lee Hee-beom, Governor of Gangwon-do Province Choi Monsoon and President of the Korea Tourism Organization Jung Chang Soo answered questions from reporters during the press conference.
Given that the next three consecutive Olympic Games will be hosted by Korea, Japan and China, the representatives underscored the various measures the three countries are taking to further increase cooperation on sports. They also provided updates on how Pyeongchang is getting ready to handle the influx of tourists, and presented plans on how they would utilize Pyeongchang’s stadiums after the Olympics. Finally, the representatives answered questions about ways to vitalize tourism in Gangwon-do Province.

“The upcoming PyeongChang 2018 Winter Olympic Games is an opportunity to further expand cooperation between Asian countries, and we will do our best to boost the region,” said Minister Cho. “There is a year left until the launch of the PyeongChang Olympics, and I ask that everyone take an active interest in the festivities of this world event so we can build a lasting legacy.”
Following the press conference, the reporters from six countries paid a visit to Gangneung’s Olympic complex. On Dec. 19 and 20, they will also tour various tourist attractions in Gangneung, such as the Seongyojang (선교장), the private residence of a noble Joseon family, as well as the Ojukheon (오죽헌), the house where Yulgok Yi Yi (율곡 이이, 栗谷 李珥) (1536-1584), one of the most prominent Confucian scholars of the Joseon period, was born. The Anmok beach cafe street, and the Ski Korea Festival are also on the itinerary.
