The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games have now finally come to a close with one last ceremony in honor of the many Games volunteers held at the COEX convention center in southern Seoul on April 23.

Prime Minister Lee Nak-yon, President Lee Hee-beom of the PyeongChang Organizing Committee, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Do Jongwhan and other dignitaries attended the ceremony, along with 900 or so volunteers.

The prime minister thanked all the volunteers for their hard work and for helping to make the PyeongChang Winter Games such a success. “You connected the athletes with the audience and with members of the press. You connected Korea with the rest of the world,” he said.

“The PyeongChang Winter Games ended on a high note as an international sporting event, but it was also instrumental in thawing inter-Korean relations. The entire world will now watch the 2018 Inter-Korean Summit and the meeting between Washington and Pyeongyang, as it eagerly awaits the results of these two summits. What’s remarkable is that all of this began in Pyeongchang.”

“Pyeongchang’s winter brought spring to the Korean Peninsula, and all of you here should feel proud that you each played a part in making this happen. Let’s all hope that this springtime breeze will bring with it flowers of peace and the seeds of prosperity,” he said.
