Specialized tourism packages targeting the provinces seek to introduce more areas and attractions of the country to foreign visitors.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Aug. 12 said that in cooperation with the Visit Korea Committee, it will launch this month 11 packages customized for such tourists to highlight the charms of selected regions like food, nature, culture and activities like mountain climbing.
The 11 were selected via public contests and had their commercialization procedures completed through consultations with public relations experts on each region’s tourism content.
The packages feature the attractions of each region under the themes of Korean pop, food, tradition, nature, healing and mountaineering.
They include “Discover Round Korea in 7 Days” featuring the provinces of Chungcheong-do, Jeolla-do, Gyeongsang-do and Gangwon-do; “Discover the Beauty of Tongyeong & Geoje in 4 Days” featuring the theme of the ocean in Geoje and Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do Province; and “Must Visit K-POP Tour” highlighting Gangwon-do and Chungcheong-do and the cities of Daegu and Busan to experience BTS and K-pop.
The other eight are “8 Days Easy Trek and Trip of Eastern Korea and Oceans”; “Savor Busan: Culinary Delights and Cafe Culture”; “Hidden Gems of Korea’s Gen Z Premium Hanok Stay with K-pop & K-drama Filming Locations”; “Coastal Beauty & K-pop Landmarks: Gangneung & Donghae Tour”; “Journey Through Ancient Korean Kingdoms: Gongju & Buyeo Day and Night Tour”; “Traditional Korea: Performances & Hanok Stay”; “Busan, Daegu Hiking Tour”; and “A Night with Korean Traditional Liquor in Andong: UNESCO World Heritage City.”
In line with the campaign Visit Korea Year 2024, this project seeks to attract more overseas tourists to the provinces. From the middle of this month, the tours will be first introduced as specialized tourism packages for Visit Korea Year through online travel platforms such as Viator for the Americas, Creatrip for global users and Klook for the Greater China region of China, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
A policy official at the ministry said, “We will continue looking for regional tourism companies to actively support them at each stage from product planning to promotion so that more people including those from abroad can visit regions and revitalize them.”
