A festival to enjoy summer around the Hangang River of Seoul has kicked off.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government on July 25 said the 2024 Hangang River Festival-Summer runs from July 26 to Aug. 11 along the river and its nine parks with programs featuring culture, leisure and challenge.
Under the theme “Cost-effective, Passion-filled Hangang River Retreat,” the event has 20 programs in the categories of music, cinema and family.
First, the outdoor performance Hangang Summer Music Picnic is slated from Aug. 2-3 at Yeouido Hangang Park, while the “healing” program Hangang Musical Splash will run from Aug. 8-9 at the Nanji park’s water playground.
And the Hangang Silent Disco Party, in which people party with headphones, will be held at the Ttukseom and Yeouido parks every weekend.
The program “Hangang Cinema on the Water” from Aug. 3-4 at the Mangwon park will screen films while the audience ride boats on the river, while “Hangang Cinema Splash” will entertain fans at the Jamwon park over the same period.
My Own Hangang Race Competition from July 10-11 at the Jamsil park will have contestants race boats made from recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, aluminum cans and milk cartons to the river’s halfway point.
Thirteen of the festival’s 20 programs are free or charge small fees. Swimming pools open at night for a limited time charge KRW 5,000 for admission, and interactive events offer discounts of 20%-30%.
